Jim Vokal’s Statement on State Tax Expenditure Report

OMAHA, NE (November 4, 2016) – This is the statement of Platte Institute CEO Jim Vokal on Friday’s public hearing on the Department of Revenue’s annual Tax Expenditure Report before the Nebraska Legislature’s Appropriations and Revenue Committees:

“Taxes are too high for Nebraska’s families and businesses. Meanwhile, this report shows there are hundreds of millions of dollars of loopholes in our tax code that are imposing higher tax rates on working and investing in our state. Legislators should review this report and the recent recommendations by the Tax Foundation, the nation’s leading independent tax research organization, to learn how Nebraska can close these loopholes to create a 21st century tax code with lower income and property taxes for hardworking Nebraskans,” said Vokal.
