Transparency Tidbits: Did you know.......
....that the legislature can ask the governor to return a bill they have sent for his signature?
Believe it or not, this is not only an option the can be used, this past spring it was used. The legislature requested that Governor Heineman return LB736 and LB736A for further consideration. LB736 provided for ignition interlock permits and changed provisions relating to other driving permits and penalties for driving under the influence. LB736A was the accompanying bill that appropriated funds. Upon the Governor’s return, the bill was placed on select file, amended, passed by the legislature, and returned to the Governor. Governor Heineman signed the bill into law on April 16, 2008.
