BAD PRESCRIPTION – 60 SECONDS

NEBRASKA’S MEDICAID PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO MAKE HEALTH CARE AVAILABLE TO THE TRULY NEEDY—CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY, AND THE DISABLED.

BUT THE PROPOSED MEDICAID EXPANSION WON’T PROVIDE ANY MORE CARE FOR THESE VULNERABLE NEBRASKANS.

INSTEAD, TAXPAYERS WILL BE ON THE HOOK FOR THREE-POINT-FIVE BILLION DOLLARS IN COSTS AND MANDATES TO PROVIDE VIRTUALLY FREE INSURANCE TO ABLE-BODIED ADULTS WITH NO CHILDREN.

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT MEDICAID EXPANSION IN OTHER STATES RAISED COSTS TO TAXPAYERS, DISCOURAGED PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PURCHASE OF HEALTH INSURANCE, AND INCREASED UNPAID HOSPITAL BILLS—RAISING THE COST OF EVERYONE’S HEALTH CARE.

AND WITH MEDICAID EXPANSION PLANS REIMBURSING DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS AT A HIGHER RATE THAN TRADITIONAL MEDICAID, NEBRASKANS IN NEED MAY BE CROWDED OUT OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.

WITH THE NATION SEVENTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT—LET’S PROTECT MEDICAID FOR THOSE WITH THE GREATEST NEED.

MEDICAID EXPANSION—IT’S A BAD PRESCRIPTION FOR NEBRASKA.

INVEST IN NEBRASKA – 60 SECONDS

EVERY STATE NEEDS TO COLLECT TAXES TO PROVIDE PUBLIC SERVICES.

BUT DID YOU KNOW SOME TAXES ARE MORE DAMAGING TO THE ECONOMY THAN OTHERS?

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT TAXES ON INCOME AND INVESTMENTS ARE THE MOST HARMFUL—ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WITH LOW INCOMES—AND THE UNEMPLOYED.

SURPRISED?

STATES WITH NO INCOME TAX EVEN HAVE LOWER POVERTY RATES ON AVERAGE.

THESE TAXES CREATE INCENTIVES TO SPEND, RATHER THAN SAVE FOR THE FUTURE.

BUT SAVINGS IS WHERE INVESTMENT COMES FROM--BUILDING SMALL BUSINESS, CREATING NEW JOBS, AND DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGIES THAT BOOST WORKER PAY.

THAT’S WHY WITH NEBRASKA’S INCOME TAXES RANKING AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE REGION—THE PLATTE INSTITUTE BACKS REFORMS THAT WOULD ALLOW NEBRASKANS TO KEEP MORE OF THE MONEY THEY EARN--

ONLY TO BE TAXED WHEN THEY DECIDE TO SPEND ON NON-ESSENTIAL GOODS AND SERVICES.

EVERY NEBRASKAN WOULD LIKE TO EARN AND SAVE MORE MONEY.

LET’S INVEST IN A TAX SYSTEM THAT HELPS US INVEST IN OURSELVES.
